Philanthropy
For the first time in Greek Week history, we will be having a philanthropic aspect to the competition. The Paw Pantry was founded this past year at Clemson to help food insecure students, teachers, and faculty have a safe space to meet their needs. By partnering with Paw Pantry, we are specifically supporting our own Clemson Family. We will also have a card/letter campaign to give back to the greater Clemson area. This is to help strengthen the town-gown relationship, as well as giving back to our troops and veterans. As mentioned before will partner with Clemson Life for The Clemson LIFE Field Day and have a table set up for participants to write cards at the event.
Can Wars
- Each team will be given a box/bags to collect cans in and will set up a spot in an on campus hall
- Team members will make donations throughout the week
- Every night at 8pm, a member from the Greek Week Committee will come to tally number of cans and tape up or close bags
- On Friday, each team will be responsible for transporting all their team’s cans to the Quad where there will be a dropoff location (if this is an issue please contact someone from Greek Week Committee and we will try to assist you). Tip: If any of the organizations in your team have a hall on the Quad, you might want to consider collecting cans there to make transport easier. Please note that cans cannot accumulate in the Hallways of any Residential Building.
- Before the dances begin, there will be a presentation with final numbers of cans as well as points for first, second, and third place will be awarded. Point distributions are as follows:
- 1st Place – 300 Points
- 2nd Place – 250 Points
- 3rd Place – 200 Points
- After the points are awarded and the dance is over, the cans will be loaded into cars and taken to the Paw Pantry.
- A list of the Paw Pantry’s needs will be sent out to chapter presidents at a time closer to Greek Week to make sure we are meeting their needs. If we have an overflow of cans that the Paw Pantry cannot accommodate them, we will donate the excess to a local food pantry.
**Please note the expiration dates of items, we ask that the date be AFTER January 2017 . Please refrain from donating items packaged in glass or cans that are damaged or swollen, as these can be hazardous. If possible, we recommend that you consider donating items with “pop-top” style lids that do not require a can opener. Some of our suggested items for donation are as follows:
- dried pasta and pasta sauce
- peanut butter
- soup cans
- canned vegetables and fruits
- oatmeal packets
- bagged rice and beans
- individual packaged items
- macaroni and cheese, ramen noodles, Chef Boyardee cans, etc.
- oatmeal, grits
- granola bars, crackers, dried fruits, nuts, etc.
- hygienic products
- shampoo/conditioner, toothpaste/toothbrushes, deodorant
- laundry detergent

Clemson Life/Card Making
- On Tuesday of Greek Week, will partner with Clemson LIFE students to connect with other populations in the Clemson community.
- While the activities are going on, there will be a table set up in the Quad with supplies to make cards.
- These cards will be made for Clemson Downs, Operation Gratitude, Clemson University Police Department, and University Housing and Dining
- Once you have completed a card, you will place it in the bin/ folder that corresponds to the place you would like the card to go to. Note: Cards and/or letters can be made in advance and dropped at the tent at the event in the proper bin/folder
- To get points for your Greek Week Team, you must indicate your affiliation on a sticky note attached to the letter or card and place it in the correct team folder.
- Please refrain from offensive, inappropriate, or religious content as we are representing Clemson and all of its individuals of different backgrounds.
- Further instructions on what each organization requires for cards or letters will be displayed under the tent with regards to content and format.
